About The Artist
Sue La Franchise - Oregon Pen and ink artist. Owner of Voila! Sue's Pen.
I have always had an interest in artistic things, ever since meeting my first color crayon at age two! While I took art electives in junior high and high school, my education took a different direction in college. After 35 years as a dental hygienist, I have returned to my childhood passion.
Family and friends gave me positive feedback after I did custom home portraits as gifts. I thought I would try something that had fewer right angles, and did some birds and flowers. For some things, the softness of dots worked better than lines, a technique called "stippling." Currently this is my preferred method, requiring magnification, patience, and lots of dots! (You will note the progression of the early 'lined' art to the predominantly 'dotted' work that I do now.) It is so fun for me to see the pencil sketch develop depth and come to life, all in the shades between black and white...
Amazing things have happened related to this adventure... A clerk at a paper store suggested a print shop for me, and the print shop recommended a gift shop that supports local artists. The shop owner has been so encouraging, (and the first to purchase my cards!) and introduced me to a card representative. I was encouraged to have a web presence.... so here I am! Thank you for your visit to my site, and your support of my art. Enjoy!
